Situated 200km west of Kimberley. It was the home of a group of Khoikhoi people whose chief, Adam Kok, followed a colourful, often aggressive life-style. It became the first town established north of the Orange River after the Missionary Society built a station there in 1815. The town lies at the foot of the Asbesberge and is the centre of rich wool, karakul & cattle farming area. Tigers Eye and various other types of gemstones can be found in the region.
